"Every day brings the opportunity to change, and the opportunity to begin a new life"
About me
I am a kind, caring, warm, and empathetic person who has encountered many struggles in my life, and I have learned to understand how to cope with and accept these difficulties and progress in life. I use my therapy practice to pass on my learnings to my clients.
I am passionate about my work and in helping others understand and accept themselves and overcome their issues.
My therapeutic approach is an integrative style in a humanistic person-centred dynamic incorporating the core conditions of Honesty, Genuineness, and Unconditional Positive Regard. My selected models are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (M.I.), Trauma Informed Care (TIC), and the Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA).
I have fifteen years of experience as a counsellor. I have practiced in a private capacity on a part-time basis along with working in the Schools Completion Programme Connemara South & West. Here I worked with children and adolescents supporting issues such as school completion, improving attendance, classroom behaviour, peer inclusion, low mood, anxiety, confidence building, and family issues.
Following this I worked for the HSE Drug & Alcohol Service in Galway city. I worked as a counsellor in addictions meeting our services user's in person and online. I coordinated Rehabilitation funding and placement for our service users.
I hold a BA hons Degree (Level 8) in Counselling & Psychotherapy with Addiction Studies, and a BA Degree (Level 7) in Counselling Skills and Addiction Studies.
I am an accredited member of the Association of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists (APCP), and of the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI).
I attend regular Supervision and personal therapy.
