What Therapy Can Do for You
Do you ever feel too overwhelmed to deal with your problems? If so, you're not alone.
More than a quarter of Irish adults will experience anxiety, depression, or mental health difficulties in any given year. Others may need help coping with relationship issues, health problems, job loss, addiction, losing weight, the death of a loved one, or managing stress.
These problems, if left unaddressed, can often become debilitating. Thankfully Fettle's trusted and caring therapists are here to help!
What is Therapy?
A therapist can support you in working through such problems. Therapists help people of all ages live healthier and happier lives. Therapists teach clients scientifically validated skills to help people develop healthier, more effective habits.
There are multiple approaches to psychotherapy—including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and other kinds of talk therapy—that help individuals work through their problems.
Therapy is a collaborative process based on the relationship between an individual and a therapist. Grounded in dialogue, therapy provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone non-judgemental, objective, and neutral.
You and your chosen therapist will work together to identify and overcome the thought and behaviour patterns that are holding you back.
By the time you are finished, you will not only have solved the problem that brought you in, but you will have learned new skills to better cope with whatever challenges arise in the future.
How to find the right therapist for you
Matching with the right therapist is important. All of Fettle's therapists have an average of ten years of experience and are registered by accrediting bodies such as The Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and The Psychological Society of Ireland.
If you see a therapist you feel would be a good fit, you can learn more about their clinical expertise, training, and experience treating problems like yours from their profile. If you are still unsure who to choose, our customer support team can assist in matching you to the right therapist based on your needs.
Going to the first appointment (and what to expect!)
You may feel nervous about your first appointment. This anxiety is perfectly normal. But having the courage to overcome that anxiety and log into the session is the first step in empowering yourself to feel better.
Simply making a plan to go to the session and sticking to it can bring a sense of relief and put you on a more positive path. Therapists understand how difficult it can be to attend the first session. Therapists also go to therapy as part of their training, so they were once in your shoes too!
In the first session, the therapist will run through confidentiality, tell you a little about themselves and their approach, and will typically ask you about your potential therapy goals. Based on the information you give, the therapist will create a treatment plan for you.
Is Online Therapy As Effective As Face To Face Therapy?
Current research suggests the effectiveness of online therapy is comparable to face-to-face therapy. So you can rest assured you will still be receiving the best support possible!
How long should therapy take?
Research indicates that it takes on average, approximately 12 to 20 sessions for clients to overcome the issues they want to address.
Longer-term therapy is needed in certain cases for more longstanding issues such as childhood abuse, family issues, and complex trauma.
